The Phidgets Circular Touch Sensor detects changes in capacitance between its on-board electrodes and the contacting object. Designed for contact on the side opposite the connector and components, it can be mounted behind a sheet of glass or plastic with a recommended thickness of 1/8 inch. Silicon adhesive is advised for attachment to prevent false triggering, which can occur if there is a gap between the sensor and the material. Thicker materials may also be used but require a larger contact area to ensure proper functionality.
The sensor allows for sliding a finger along its surface, varying the Analog Input 0 value from 0V to 5V in approximately 125 discrete steps, with the final value retained upon finger removal. Two Digital Inputs provide additional information: Digital Input 0 indicates contact with the sensor, while Digital Input 1 signals proximity of a finger or object to the board. The Analog Input value is considered valid when both Digital Inputs are true.
The PhidgetCircularTouch connects to a computer via USB and functions similarly to an InterfaceKit in software, offering continuous capacitive touch control with 125 touch regions for precise input.
